Things tend to escalate.

On Sunday we only had 3 kids in sunbeams (yes, those sunbeams I love to talk about).
It is a nice small group, and are soo much easier to handel than the 8 of them together.
Although they also finish tasks super early, leaving for even more time. So, we go to the gym and let them run around for the last 10 minutes of class.

It's great. They run around like a bunch of monkeys on caffeine.
I had the genios idea to have them race. After 2-3 times of this, I told them to hop across the gym. They got about half way, and it turned into running.
Then I decided to stop the running, and see who could jump the highest.
Somehow that too translated into racing across the gym.
It was pretty great. And it taught me one thing:

Things escalate quickly.

Like when Sariah get's angry.
She gives you one chance to fix the problem. Then mercy is in the dust.

And Scouts energy level.
Really- it just never ends.
Yes, that is a picture of Scout. Chasing the Canadian geese migrating in the sky.

And bad tempers.
Oh, how those escalate quickly. One bad driver, and bye-bye happy days.

And December.
Why is it that no matter how little you did in November and no matter how little you have planned in December, that it ALWAYS ends up being the craziest, busiest month?

Waist size.
Like seriously- it is really unfair how easy it is that they escalate but are so slow to decrease?

I have a theory about it.
Actually I don't. But I thought this post would sound more complete if I do. But I am sure it has something to do with Mall's. Possibly even Robin and How I Met Your Mother.

But really, things escalate too quickly in life. December came too quickly. Life changes too quickly. People can't ever seem to stay happy long enough to enjoy life. It's a peculiar conundrum. Particularly technology. Has anyone else noticed the major leap technology has taken? And especially by how much it takes over our lives?

Anyways, I will leave you with this:

Via
See? Things escalate so quickly.

The End.

Sunday Confessions Time

1. I DON'T HEAR.......WELL.

I don't really even know how to say this, but I am pretty sure everyone I have ever met can attest to the fact that I have a hearing problem. Case in point:

Joe: "Did you hear a kid at BYU-I got pulled over outside of Idaho Falls for speeding, and then they found he had an illegal amount of marijuana and a bomb."
*What Mary heard*: Did you hear a kid at BYU-I got pulled over for outside of Idaho Falls for speeding, and then they found he had an illegal amount of marijuana in a bomb?

Mary: Wow. *Confused. Trying to think it through.* So, was he going to light it and just get a bunch of people high?
Joe: What?
Mary: Oh, wait- or, can you use marijuana as a reactive chemical in a bomb, and was he going to use it to explode stuff?
Joe: Mary, what are you talking about?
Mary: You said he had marijuana in a bomb.
Joe: No. I said he had marijuana AND a bomb.
Mary: Oh. That makes a lot more sense. I was just imagining a giant ball of marijuana in the shape of a bomb.

2. No movie....today.

Not for me. For our primary kids at church. Because hey, 3-4 year olds are hard to handel. And we realized we could captivate them with movies on our phone/computer (Yes, we did start brining our computer for them). Because really, 50 minutes is a LONG time to teach 8 of these kids. No one can focus. So, the last like 10-15 min of class is devoted to SPIRITUAL movies. We at least keep it in line with church, thank you very much.
But not today. Today a girl asked, "Are we going to watch a movie today?" Clearly, we may have over-done it.

3. We have a German Shorthair Pointer

Okay, no surprise there. But we didn't take her hunting this year. I am pretty sure we are going against the laws of gravity or something (maybe just the laws of nature). A dog should be used for what it is meant for. I feel bad. She loves those birds, and I just know she dreams of carrying a dead one triumphantly in her mouth back to us one day.

4. I am one of those people that when someone says, "Take this for free" I do not argue.

On friday when we went to get our donuts, we asked for a milk as well. The lady forgot to rang it up, and Joe noticed right as she handed us our receipt. She felt bad and just grabbed a milk for us and told us to take it anyways- but we said no, we didn't really need it and walked out, even though she insisted we took it.
Me, I am the kinda person to take it. The person offered it, why fight? I guess it's sorta sleazy and cheap of me, but when something isn't mine, I feel like I can spend it like crazy (like someone offers to take me out to dinner). It's bad, I know. But it is the way it is.

Children

There are very specific reasons children are amazing.
I didn't say few. I said specific. There are MANY specific reasons. But today I am going to mention a few. Okay, one.
Children really DO say the darnest things.

Remember how I told you in this post about the little girl who disapproved on my attempted drawing of a swan? Well, her name is Nora. She is really sweet and probably one of our favorites to teach in our sunbeams class (3-4 year olds). Well, Nora (I can't remember, but I don't think her name has an H at the end) has a best friend. His name is Rylan. They are both in our class- and ALWAYS sit next to each other. It's really cute, actually. They always know all the answers to the questions, are quite, participate, and are just really good in class (Hence why they are our favorites).
Well anyways, this last Sunday as Joe and I were working on helping the kids with their turkey projects, Nora was explaining to Rylan how he was going to marry her.

Nora: It's not that I want you marry you, but you want to marry me.
Rylan: No I don't!
Nora: Yes you do!

A little while after this, I decided to ask another girl, Kate, if her mom was pregnant. Her mom is stick skinny, and looked slightly on the pudgy side- which for her, could only mean pregnant. And, because these kids don't know a stick from a stone when it comes to secrets, I knew she would tell me. This is how the events turned out.

Me: Kate, are you guys having a baby?
Kate: Yes.
Rylan: Are you having a brother or a sister?
Kate: I don't know yet.
Nora: My mom is having a brother! And she said what she is going to name him.
Me: What is his name going to be?
Nora: My sister wants to name her Almanzo, because its an old pioneer name. But I want to name him meatloaf. And my mom said that if he comes out looking like meatloaf, we will name him that.
*Nora's mom, who is passing by the classroom and hear's Nora explain this, quickly opens the door and yells, "I did not!" and closes the door.*
Later on talking to Nora's mom about this, she explains that she has no clue where Nora got meatloaf from, but has been stuck on it for weeks. I told her about the flamingo story, and asked if she does this sort of thing a lot. Her mom say's that Nora is the most straight faced story teller in the family. One day their grandparents came to visit, and Nora said, "I had a brother once. But he died so we buried him in the back yard."

Honestly. Children. The say the greatest things. Probably the #1 reason why people have any, right?
I know I am looking forward to it.

Also, although we are 'technically adults'  here is something funny. =]

Oh, and Sariah. She is a favorite around here.
I am glad to know she is not color blind.
She also doesn't like green beans.

Movie Monday!

So, like I have mentioned before- Joe and I teach the 3-4 year olds at church.
This last week the lesson was on "Being kind to animals".
Joe was out of town, so I had the little munchkins all to myself.
And it actually went pretty well!
Or so I thought.
Until Joe got home that night and I told him what happened and realized how I basically CRUSHED six kids dreams.

Here is what happened:
In the lesson, I was supposed to tell the kids about Noah's Ark.
Well, I am Irish. And we listen to Irish music a lot. Like the Rovers. So I grew up listening to the song below. And to this day, I cannot think of Noah's Ark without thinking of this song.
So, while telling the kids about Noah's ark- I thought it would be nice to tell them what happened to Unicorns.
In my mind, they would know that Unicorns are fake- but like to believe they are real. It never occurred to me that they might actually BELIEVE they exist.

So, I told them how the Unicorns all got washed away, and that there are NO MORE unicorns today. Then I watched as they all gasped in shocked, trying to comprehend as their dreams are washed away. I smiled in triumph- thinking I had fooled them.

Oh, the fool I am.
I told Joe what happened.
And soon saw the error of my ways.
Poor little kids.
Poor little girl who put her hands to her face and kept asking, "Wait- what happened?"

So, enjoy.

Sunday Sunday

Joe and I teach the sunbeams (3-4 year olds) at church. Today was our first day.
It was eventful.
One kid decided to keep running away from class, causing the other kids "needing" to chase him to get him back. It ended up with all the kids running into the chapel where all their dads were having priesthood- starring at me as I interrupted their lesson, dragging their children away.
Great first day, huh? At least one father after church was kind enough to tell me he had to really hold back busting out laughing.

The cutest thing ever also happened. I asked a little girl, Hailey, to give the opening prayer. Her father is currently working in Montana- and her ENTIRE prayer consisted of various versions of, "please protect my daddy while he is in Montana". So cute. The best part was when she said, "I pray that I will stay his little princess."
:) Sooo cute.

The end.
