At home with 2

I had a realization yesterday that I never thought I would have.

We were at a friends house having a play date. This friend has a couple older kids in school, then one daughter Sariahs age. She mentioned that she will occasionally fall asleep wth her daughter at nap time.
It caught me off guard in a wired way.
Sort of like déjàvu.
I used to fall asleep with Sariah during nap time all the time.
But now it is a rare occurrence. First I have to find the time to be home during nap time. Then make sure both kids sleep at the same time. Then I have the never-ending chore list tugging me away.

I should have been jealous. Knowing me, that is what my reaction would most like have been. And even a month ago It would have been.
When Séamus was first born, I remember missing having only one child. Almost wishing for the days of single child freedom. But I knew I didn't want to give up Sariah or Séamus. I knew that I would die without Sariah, and moments after Séamus was born I knew I would fight to keep him. There was no way I would give up one of them to only have one child again . The only option was to love them both; but even more importantly- LOVE HAVING TWO CHILDREN.

And that is what I realized yesterday. When my friend mentioned that she could take naps, I thought "what would I do without Séamus? Who would keep me entertained while Sariah slept?"

I thought it before I even realized I was thinking it. And like that, I was grateful for two kids. Grateful for the never ending chaos. Grateful that every day they grow, they will have each other. Grateful that I always have something to do, and someone to love.

Even if it means never sleeping again.

This man rocks

My husband rocks. Just saying.

The other day I noticed a mason jar just sitting around. Since we don't have a toothbrush holder, I decided to use the mason jar- since they are oh-so trendy now.

Joe: what are you gonna do with that?
Me: use is to put out toothbrushes in.
Joe: oh, I was gonna do that, but I thought it would look tacky.
Me: you kidding? Mason jars are the new trendy thing.
Joe: are you serious?
Me: and burlap. HUGE.
Joe: so being poor is the new trendy?
Me: basically.

I never new I would be trendy without trying. :)

Growing up, or getting older?

I believe that one thing that greatly signifies us of getting older, is one simple question.

"Where do you live?"
So simple, right? Yet suddenly I feel bombarded by this question. And I realized it has slowly progressed and become more important, and I see no end in sight.

It starts with childhood, when you are on vacation and meet another kid at the pool- and your questions pretty much consist of "Whats your favorite color, animal, food, and movie." Maybe your name.
Then as you get older, you start asking the more serious questions. Like, "Who do you have for homeroom?"
In college, you ask WHERE you came form. Then, all the sudden, you get married. But it doesn't happen just then- it still takes some time. A kid, a change of scenery, maybe a nice car or something. Then all the sudden you walk into a new setting, church or something- and after the "are you knew? What are you here for? What are you doing?"--Not even a name, it comes. Like a heavy bag of rotten apples, "Where do you live". (Note: If you are ever asked this by a random passerby on the street, DO NOT ANSWER.)

Not that this is a bad thing, it just, is life. Getting older, maybe growing up. I can't decide which.
I just saw something on facebook today that said, "Getting older is necessary. Growing up is optional", I think- or something like that.

Suddenly, I realized- that now, wherever we move, I will be marked by where I live. It is a bit saddening, I suppose, as we fight already to keep our identity without the worlds influence, now we must mask our home's as well.

But it is life.
And I shall continue on.
