"My name is 77bluebirdlane. You know, like the singer Cher?"

Yesterday I was reading some article somewhere in this vast expanse of universal internet...trending baby names.
Does anyone else get upset by these lists?
Lists like this, or this, or even this one.

I read them, because, I don't know. I am a women? I have a baby, and plan on one day having more, and so the forces of nature compel me to read. But I hate it the moment I open the list up.
Inevitably, it is filled with a name that I like. But is now "popular" or "trendy" and it irks me to no end that my baby may end up being another Mary/Sarah/Megan/Ashely in a sea of others with the same name.
Then, there are those CRAZY, WACKY names, that make your cringe. "What! People are actually naming their daughter Harper?" That isn't even the wackiest. It's more the made-up names, or the new names that combine to old names to make a new name. (Like Brianna-Amanda, but one name- just an example), that irritate me.

Maybe this is a personal problem I need to face. People will continue to name their children Apple, Champion, Sunset, Diamond, whatever. I just wish people could put some meaning into a name.
I know that some people may not understand why we named Sariah, Sariah, and might thing it is a strange name. (Although, I think personally it is a very pretty name- whether you know where it came from or not.)  Ultimately, her name is a religious name. As members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, we read and believe in the Book of Mormon. Sariah was the wife of a faithful man in the book of mormon, who faithfully followed her husband into the unknown wilderness. So, the name has a lot of meaning. It is special to us. Her middle name is Elizabeth, which is a family name. Her name MEANS something to us. I hope it does to her as well.

We have a few other names picked out for our future children as well- all names that we have talking about, thought about, and given consideration to about the meaning. I don't want my child being told, "Oh- we just named you Sasquatch because it sounded cool".

My dad always tells me he always wanted a Mary. I find it comforting that while my name may be common, that the heritage holds a lot on its shoulders- and that it was always wanted (Although I have two older sisters and always wondered why my dad waited...for another day. =]). My name feels special to me.

I think that is what ultimately annoys me about baby name lists. It makes these special names that parents choose for their children, a statistic. And how lame is that? Who wants to be just another number?
Just saying.
