4th of July: Lincoln at its best

For all of the criticism we give Lincoln/mid-west/Nebraska (ticks, Mosquitos, humidity, irregular weather, use p the word 'pop', ridiculous need to just stop in the middle of the road when getting pulled over...etc)...
It actually has some good points.
Like the 4th of July.
This day alone makes living out here tolerable.
Imagine skylines FILLED with fireworks.
It was an amazing sight.

For some reason, Lincoln has their firework display on July 3rd. I heard it was to cut down on cost (not having to pay employees overtime), but really- there is SO much going on on the 4th, it makes sense. Plus it was great to have 2 days to celebrate!

And really, Sariah was AMAZING and slept through all of it. While we were outside 1/2 mile away from here they were setting off fireworks. An the entire walk home she slept, with people setting off rather large fireworks right in the street.

On the actual 4th we wet to our ward breakfast at a nearby park. Then in the afternoon we went to a lake and had a GREAT time. Sariah loved swimming and playing   in the sand, she got her first fishing lesson, Joe caught his first bass (yay!), and Scout even got to be terrorized by birds instead of the other way around- but she still loved it.
We had a BBQ and ate good food and had a great time.
On the way home, because we were 20-30 miles outside of Lincoln, and because Nebraska is so flat- we could see ALL the fireworks around us.

And Nebraska has MUCH bigger residential fireworks than back home. We just pulled over and watched the skyline light up. It was so pretty.
If you want to do 4th of July right, come to Lincoln- drive to a "hill" outside of town- and enjoy.

Waiting for the fireworks to start!

How she slept during all the fireworks. Cute bum tucked in the air and everything. Now your impressed, right?

Exploring the field with daddy :)

Ice cream face on the 4th of July!

Daddy- daughter fishing.

First camp fire s'more :) well...probably not. But the first one she made!
